GENERAL
I have thirty-five years' experience of teaching English to boys and girls in schools in England and Wales.
Several former pupils have gained 1st Class Honours degrees in English from Oxford and Cambridge, but I am just as interested in those who need a C grade at GCSE to continue into A level studies or who are dyslexic.

You may want to do your best in Common Entrance or the 11+ exam to get into the school of your choice.

I charge £40 per hour at the moment, plus travel expenses at £1 per mile from Pewsey, unless you come to me.

These are vital years in any boy’s or girl's schooling, especially when it comes to language skills.
English problems dealt with at this stage make GCSEs so much more straightforward.

2 GCSE ENGLISH AND ENGLISH LITERATURE
I have extensive experience of helping a wide range of pupils with an equally wide range of reasons for not succeeding as well as they might.
I am familiar with the detailed requirements of all the exams in English and English Literature for all exam boards.

3 AS ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND/OR ENGLISH LITERATURE
A2 ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND/OR ENGLISH LITERATURE
All ages: including adults doing degrees who want help organising ideas on paper.

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT
Parents, if you are concerned that your son or daughter may not be achieving as well as they should be, I can offer a preliminary educational assessment of literacy and reasoning skills. This can alert you to the need for further action. This may be simply informing the school of your concerns and enquiring what support is already being offered, to arranging some private tutoring or (in a few cases) organising a full assessment by an educational psychologist.

11+ EXAM FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOLS

I offer one-to-one support and practice in intelligence tests and all English skills needed to gain a place at a Grammar School.

You will do practice exams and have them marked so that there are no surprises on the day!

REVISION
Although more can be achieved over a one or two year period, it is amazing what a difference just a few weeks' tutoring can make, especially just before an exam.

DYSLEXIA
Do you think you may have specific difficulties with some aspect of reading or writing?
Do you see yourself as slow at reading or writing?
Does your teacher complain about the untidiness of your work?
Do you have difficulty copying off the board?
Do you find it hard to organise your work?
Is remembering things sometimes a problem?

If so, you may be dyslexic and need extra help. There are ways round these problems.
As a qualified teacher of dyslexics, I can offer help and assessment at all stages: particularly to those pupils whose needs are not sufficiently urgent to receive help at school. These boys and girls are often overlooked but a little help can raise their grades and improve their confidence tremendously.
